A couple of years ago, I wrote a blog titled #blackstoriesmatter. It was a list of indie dystopian, sci-fi, and fantasy book recommendations, and was one of the most popular posts on my blog. I’m so happy to see diversity in these genres continue to grow, and it feels like a good time for an update! It’s clear people are hungry for diverse books in every genre.
Representation matters, so I wanted to expand on that list of indie books by Black authors while also offering additional forms of diversity. This time around, I am including books that feature characters of color, LGBTQ+ characters, and characters with disabilities.
I hope you enjoy browsing this list. I encourage you to share this post and support the authors behind this work! This list was made by book recommendations from members of the Diverse Books With Magic Facebook community. If there is a book you feel should be here that is not, let me know in the comments. It would be amazing if the comments section helps readers discover more hidden gems!
P.S. I’m hosting a giveaway that will allow you to get your hands on some of my books and sweet book swag! Sharing this blog post counts as an entry to my giveaway. Click here to learn more.
